Pipe Stress Analysis for FRP/ GRE Fire Water System

GRE piping stress analysis including support design shall be performed in according with ISO 14692-3 code. The responsibility shall cover the design, the pre-fabrication and the site erection of the GRP piping network.

For the firewater system, the results of a Hydraulic Surge Analysis shall be provided so that an assessment can be made on the pipework design (GRE or metallic). For all other critical GRE systems, a pseudo-static study shall be carried out to assess any water hammer effects.

The GRE supplier shall provide guaranteed allowable stresses σ in pipes, fittings and joints. A reducing ratio shall then be defined and applied to each allowable stress σ. It results in an allowable stress threshold value “X”.

The joints having a calculated stress value σcal exceeding 85% the threshold “X” shall be considered as critical joints and shall be made during the prefabrication. All critical joints to be prefabricated shall be clearly identified on the isometrics.
